We were doing an herbs and spices activity and one of the stations was to mix some herbs and spices and oils to make a spread for sliced baguettes.
For our cooking methods units, each group had to cook our potatoes a different way. Our group pan fried the potatoes until they were crispy and golden on the outside.
Each of our groups had to prepare a different entree and or group made a salad. I cut the onions and Ms Hoskins told me that i cut onions like a professional.
For Valentine's day, each group made something different that had to do with the holiday. Our group melted chocolate and dipped pretzels and strawberries onto the chocolate. I added the sprinkles to the chocolate cover food. We put them in the fridge to harden the chocolate, but we were unable to eat any so hopefully they tasted okay.
Our group made Fried Egg Huevos Rancheros. I cut the garlic, avocado, and the tomatoes. I also helped fry the eggs. Ms Hoskins plated it. It tasted really good.
Our class made Risotlo. To cook it, Ahry braised it. She put it in a pan and slowly stirred it while it cooked. I chopped the vegetables at the beginning of the lab but ended up doing dishes with Jenna for the majority of the lab.
Earlier in the quarter i missed the potato wedges and garlic aioli lab. I made it up at home, the potatoes turned out well but my blender was a little broken and stopped working so the aioli wasn't pureed like it should have been.
In class we made chicken and dumpling soup. I cut the carrots and helped mix the dough for the dumplings. I think we over seasoned the soup with pepper but it was still good.
We made grilled cheese and tomato soup. I cooked the soup. We were cooking basically just tomato juice until the end when we added canned tomatoes. We had to puree those; I had never used the puree machine before.
We made chile in class. I cut all of the vegatables needed and then did dishes for the rest of the class, but we finished a little bit early so that was nice.
We made broccoli cheddar cheese soup. It was the first time this semester that I've been cooking the soup on the stove without any help. The soup was really good.
On the day we made pancakes I woke up with a headache and ended up coming in late. I joined a group but since I was late I didn't want to be in the way so I did the dishes while they cooked the pancakes.
We made crepes, which I had never made before. I didn't make the batter, but I cooked it on the stove. A boy in my group decorated them after I put whipped cream in and rolled them.
Our class did cake decorating for about a week. On the Sunday prior to the start of cake decorating I had to make buttercream frosting and two 9 inch round cakes. When I came downstairs to make these, I found my mom making the frosting and when I asked her why she said she was bored and wanted something to do. On the Monday we started, I realized my frosting was too thick so I had to rewhip it. However, make cake was very soft and it started to tear the cake apart. When I realized I would not be able to fix it, I turned to Ms Hoskins and she preformed a miracle and put my cake back together. The next day we added another base layer. The day after we started doing borders, which looked good at first but they got a little messed up the next two days from taking the cake out of my cake carrier. Then I added to the top "10 Days Left." The following day I added the stars to the side of the cake and started to add the peril sprinkles. I mostly just chose those sprinkles because I thought they were pretty. I brought my cake to the locker room on Friday and shared it with my second period and it was devoured. Everyone said they loved it.
